Passport Scanner is based on OCR (optical character recognition) technology and designed to read travel documents which follow the ICAO 9303 standards. It could extract data from Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) on the passport, visa, some countries' ID cards and driver license, makes it convenient for fast ID check and ID registration.

Passport Scanner consists of OCR software and high-resolution scanner. The scanner is responsible for capturing ID document images, and then pass the image to the computer via USB port; OCR software will process these images and provide recognition results. The whole progress only takes 1-2 seconds, which makes it a perfect solution for fast ID registration.  It can be applied for quick, reliable and flawless operation for high-speed scanning in a wide range of settings including international hotel check-in, airport border control, immigration office management, property management system and so on.

Passport Reader For Hajj & Visa Application

Now we have devices for Hajj and Umrah visa application passport reader.

The Hajj is an annual Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the most holy city for Muslims, and a mandatory religious duty for Muslims that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by all adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey. The Hajj is the largest annual gathering of people in the world.

In order to perform hajj the pilgrims have to travel to Makkah and Madinah situated in Saudi Arabia. But when a hundreds of thousands of Muslims from all over the world flock into the holy city, it is never easy to distribute the visas to them. In order to have the pilgrim getting the visa ASAP, the Saudi Arabia government just developed a website and they authorize some tour operators to provide hajj and Umrah services. Each appointed tour operators has its own quota and they are obligated to help to get the visa.

When a pilgrim plans to do Hajj, they are going to the authorized tour operator to apply for the visa. When the tour operators receive the request from the pilgrim, they need login the website https://ehaj.haj.gov.sa to fill in the Hajj data details and submit the data to Saudi Arabia related authorities. The website does not allow the applicants to manually type in the passport details, the Saudi Arabian government require every authorized tour operator equip with passport reader devices. Thus they must use the hardware to automate the scanning process.

OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technology is the electronic conversion of images of typed, handwritten or printed text into machine-encoded and editable text. It is widely used as a form of information entry from printed paper data records, whether passport documents, invoices, bank statements, computerized receipts, business cards or books. Our OCR software has being developing by Tsinghua University since 1985, it focuses on the recognition of Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean and Arabic characters.

Based on this OCR tech, Passport Reader is specially invented to extract identity data from ICAO 9303 & non-ICAO compliant travel documents, such as Passport, E-Passport, Visa, ID card, Driving License and other travel documents around the world. OCR MRZ Document Reader helps Airport Border Control

ICAO 9303 Standard Passport Reader

In order to facilitate international communication, many countries started to issue machine readable travel documents in the 1980s. This kind of document is encoded in optical character recognition format, and is standardized by ICAO 9303 Standard. Passport is one of the ICAO 9303 standard travel documents. It has a machine readable zone at the bottom of passport identity page.

With OCR (optical character recognition) technology, machine readable travel documents can be read within seconds. Wintone Passport Reader is based on own-patented OCR algorithm, it can read passports, visa, MRZ. For Non-MRZ documents, passport reader can also be trained to read VIZ (visual inspection zone). Up till now, Wintone has developed their passport reader to read ID cards from Thailand, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan; and some country use their driver license as identity card, Wintone passport reader is also able to read driver license. And, It can reader barode and QR code.

How does passport reader works? Wintone passport reader consists of hardware (scanner) and software (OCR SDK). The scanner can capture high resolution document images, and transfer it to the OCR software; OCR software will process this image, extract necessary data and upload these data to your application.
